Design Process

In-depth interviews and observations of more than a dozen biologists in six different labs were conducted. Many insights came out of this research which led to a variety of concept sketches and then a paper prototype of a sequence alignment tool that lets biologists see how it works. Feedback was solicited from bioinformaticists, and a fully interactive prototype was made. This prototype, called Underbelly, was tested with six biologists and underwent heavy revision.
