HCI DESIGN THEORY RU13Z!!!!

Do you mind if I stay here? It's quite interesting.

THEORY ||||||||||||||| KNOWLEDGE

Erik S: Do you have a theory of knowledge? Someone: No. (read:yes) Someone else: Maybe. I've never thought about it. (read:maybe not)

Actor-Network Theory

THEORY ||||||||||||||| PHILOSOPHY

philosophy teaches you all the theories, epistemology, etc. theory is practical; a tool.

Question for Stolterman: What are your personal biases as a human being that we should be wary of as we let you influence us?

Psychology: should it be design- or science-oriented? If it's design-oriented, anything that works is OK.

Design is not concerned with truth. It is concerned with the real world.

Strange question: How will the world interact with us?

It would be interesting to study which facial muscles children use and which muscles adults use. I imagine part of the youthful look of children is because they are constantly using some muscles and never use others. Perhaps the ones that aren't used are the ones we have learned to use for certain socially-demanded expressions. And perhaps there are more innate expressions that we use less often that children are more disposed to make.

Assignment 1: 1-2 pages. Reflections around when you think about theory and yourslef and your field what comes to mind. Do you see proplems, opportunities. Do you feel comfortable/uncomfortable. Juts a personal little reflection. We will give these to each other.

Assignment 2: Similar in that based on your personal interests in your field, try to see if you can catch what you see the major interaction design challenges for you in your field. What is it that makes up the human-computer interaciton challenge in your field, in relation to the technical development, or whatever you can see in your field. And also if you have any ideas around that.
