Mockup

by erik on October 3rd, 2005

So, Josh tells me that there are rumors flying around that Google is going to release a web-based office suite of some kind tomorrow. That’s funny, because I’ve been talking about how they should do that for a while now, and thinking about what the ideal AJAX/DHTML web-based word processor would look like for a while.

So, in order to lay claim to my idea, in case Google has gone ahead and implemented it, I have created a flash prototype of it and put it online for everyone to see. If Google does something similar, I can say “I told you so!” and if they don’t, I can say “mine would be better.”

So, here it is. It will type the text for you automatically, and then there are only two things you can do with it: create a table and make the selected text bold. Go ahead and see if you can figure out how to do each of those things. The rest of the word processor’s functionality would work in a similar way.
