instead of working on

instead of working on the draft of my Putla paper which is due tomorrow morning, I’ve successfully conquered two technical issues with my laptop: it hibernates reasonably well, and I can now use both the built in and external mice at the same time. That means that when I have to unplug my mouse to download pictures from my camera, I can still use the trackpoint. Sweet.

And in the bad-to-weird department, I think the sound card is dead, which is bad. And the when the modem automatically reconnected to the internet after coming out of hibernation, it actually made those modem sounds, which it has never done before. And the sound seemed to come out of the speakers–but I thought the sound card was dead? Weird.

work, class, home. It

work, class, home. It was a
beautiful day, so I stopped on the ride home to take in the afternoon a
bit.

got back from work,

got back from work, watched Mad
TV
for about an hour, had some dinner, read a little about Putla, Mexico and walked the dog. The moon isn’t out tonight, which means the sky is just full of stars. Despite the fact that the are some light clouds, the view is pretty dazzling, with bats swooping silently above every now and then for atmospheric effect. I should go up north for a week some time and spend some time staring at the night sky. It must be spectacular up there.

the essays are looking

the essays are looking surprisingly good. I’m sticking a fork in them and taking a shower. After three hours of lecture and five hours of work I will then come home and start reading for the paper draft that’s due on Thursday. Yippee.

woke up early. Got my
Anthropology essays written last night. And I use the term “written”
very
loosely. Hopefully in the next two hours I will turn this steaming pile
into
something I can hand in.

just had a visit

just had a visit from Wendy, which
was neat. Haven’t seen her in probably at least a year. I’m not really
sure. She came down with her roommate and a friend from Germany. I want
to go up to Northampton some time and see their place. We talked about
how it’s not being a bad friend if you don’t stay actively in touch with
people you aren’t geographically near.

There’s this undeniable fact
that
you need friendships with people near you physically, and as long as that
is the case, long-stanging friendships can only be icing on the cake.
It’s awesome when you stay in touch with someone for a long time, but the
nature of the game is that you’ll be out of touch for stretches. You
can’t help that.

got a late start

got a late start today. Didn’t get in to work until
11:15, had to really force myself to enjoy the bicycle ride in. My mom used to say that anyone
can get done the things they enjoy. The hard part is getting done things
you don’t want to do. Anthropology and work are those things for me. I
will be happy in two
weeks when I will have less to do with them and more to do with the Jolt and my
Independent Study which is slowly becoming a PITA. Hopefully it will be more fun
when I actually get to do some usability testing.

I need to bring my camera everywhere. That’s why I bought the damn thing.

Time for bed. I

Time for bed. I spend a few hours
today on the redesign I’m working on for nyspace.com.
I haven’t really had the chance to do much web design recently so it should
be a fun project. Created an outline in the car yesterday for my Mexico
exam. Wrote about a page of text last night. Much to do tomorrow. I really
wasn’t counting on these summer courses being so much work, but this particular
class has turned out to be a lot of writing. Philosophy and Film were/are
so light that I thought this would be too. Oh well.

Just got back from

Just got back from href=http://www.bu.edu/housing/tanglewood/aboutBUTI.html>Tanglewood for Kate’s
birthday. She seems to be having a great time. It’s a really musically
engaging place it seems, Heard Mozart’s Requiem.
It was a nice performance, but I couldn’t help compare to the concert
href=http://chorus.uconn.edu/html/>we did the week after September 11, which
was so powerful. Singing with a chorus is simply an order of magnitude
more powerful than watching from the audience. I need to get back into
it.

Going to sleep. Leaving

Going to sleep. Leaving at 7:30
for Tanglewood to visit Kate. Getting less than six hours of sleep again.
Not a great plan.
