Earth to the faithful

The purpose separation of church and state is not to prevent Christianity from being pervasive your life. It’s to allow it to be. You can support injecting Christian beliefs into the government, but inevitably the time will come when your government will mandate the ideals of a Christian sect that you disagree with. Or your faith will grow in a way that is incompatible with mandates the government has made. What then?

You will no longer be free to practice Christianity as you want to. The government will become an impediment, rather than an instrument of your faith. The reason to keep Church and State separate is that your faith MUST be between you and your god, and to enlist the government as a third party is to ask for trouble.

So, let’s not let the government decide what a family is. Let’s not let the government decide how we should pray. And let’s not support politicians who believe these things are within the province of politics.
