San Diego

I recommend putting on this track while you read.

I know I haven’t blogged much about my Ph.D. decision making process, and hopefully I’ll put some of that down in the future, but I made my decision today, and so I’ll blog a little about that.

I’ve been pretty racheted up lately. I’ve written posts for this blog and not published them because I wanted to maintain a strong public persona. I debated that quite a bit. Part of me felt that I should post whatever I felt; whatever I was inclined to post, because it was the only honest way to be. But the part of me that wanted to keep some of the more presonal struggles private won out.

I am hoping to open up some of those weaker moments in the next few weeks, because I think that kind of honesty can do a lot of good in the world.

I am also winding down a bit. I am not much for constant ladder climbing. I think often the best things in life are there for the picking on whatever “rung” you are on. I made the choice to do some climbing this year, and it’s paid off in the form of some good Ph.D. offers, but now I’d like to go back to enjoying the scenery a bit.

That’s not to say that I’ll stop working, just that I’ll be spending plenty of time in the flower beds too.

if you don’t have a point to make,
don’t sweat it
you’ll make a sharp one being so kind,
and I’d sure appreciate it

everyone else’s goal’s to get big headed
why should I follow that beat
being that I’m
better than fine

And in the Fall, the nice folks at UCSD have offered to let me keep doing that out there.

Word. I have to say that I’m quite happy about your decision. I think it’s a good one.

From a UCSD alum to a soon-to-be UCSD student, here’s to your future. You’ll do great. :-)

Oh, and I’m definitely gonna take you out for some Roberto’s II some time, or maybe some Lolita’s. Say hi to the Singing Tree and Sun God for me. (You’ll understand this last paragraph soon enough…)
